The region of Antwerp
The objective of this activity is to deploy interactive traffic management in the Flanders region. This will be done by realising (changes to the) sub-systems, performing system integration tests and operate the sub-systems during the integration tests and the evaluation period. This pilot is held in the Flemish region of Antwerp (and surroundings) with some 2.000.000 inhabitants.

Testing interoperability, replicability and scalability
In the Flemish pilot the traffic management centre of Flanders works with several intermediaries and all SOCRATES2.0 service providers. Together they cover the majority of the current Flemish market for mobile navigation systems and a fair share of in-car services. Same as in Copenhagen, this pilot will have less involved road users than the Dutch pilot, but again, it contributes to the experience of the cooperation framework and mobile/in-car services in another country in another environment and with a different culture. Same as for the other pilots, the purpose is to demonstrate the interoperability, replicability and scalability of services and the cooperation framework, meeting the priorities and needs of all stakeholders involved on a EU-wide scale.
Large motorway network
The Flemish traffic centre manages the whole of the motorway network in Flanders, which is around 900 km, including the whole of the Flemish TEN-T Core network. This traffic centre is also active in cross border traffic management, in corporation with the traffic centres of the neighbouring countries. The traffic centre is modified to deliver the information as agreed in the Pilot designs.
Organisation
The Flemish Traffic Centre leads this activity, provides pilot coordination, monitors progress of all tasks, organises the system integration tests and the evaluations according to the agreed plan. Based on the common designs and specifications (see Framework design) all partners (public and private) can work in isolation to modify or extend their systems and services. The coordinator reports the progress of the activity to the project management team.
Several partners (MAPtm, HERE and Be-Mobile) develop intermediary roles and functions (at least one), providing interfacing services that consist of:
- data exchange service via a standardised protocol (TMex in SOCRATES2.0);
- development and maintenance of a common operational picture (current and predicted traffic status);
- monitoring, assess and/or certify quality of data;
- enable and/or organise contractual agreements.
